Anglo-Indian Mahogany Drop Leaf Table – SOLDEarly 19th century
A British colonial mahogany drop leaf table with a central pedestal. The overhanging table top has reeded edges and is mounted at either side with a drop leaf which is secured with brass hinges. When raised, each leaf rests on a bracket, even with the sides, which rotates outwards.
The two frieze drawers have ebony moulding around the edge and ebony pulls. The baluster centre support is well turned and is joined into the quatrefoil base with hollowed sides which rests on four carved feet.
The table has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The inside and back have also been finished. The mahogany has a rich warm shade with a striking grain.
