Indo-Dutch Satinwood & Ebony boxEarly 19th century
A beautiful Dutch colonial storage box made of nicely contrasting satinwood and ebony. On the sides as well as on the overlapping top and base, the box has a deep moulded ebony edge. The sides have cast bail lift handles against a pierced brass back plate, the front with a beautiful brass escutcheon.
The inside reveals two lidded document compartments on either side and two nice brass hinges that secure the lid to the back.
The box, that was modeled after the larger colonial chest, rests on two supports.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing.
