Anglo-Indian Rosewood SideboardMid 19th century
A very decorative British colonial sideboard made of rosewood. The sideboard has two doors boldly carved with a large oval sunburst design, centered by an oval disk and opens to reveal an interior with 2 shelves. The cabinet stands on a carved base supported on four carved bun feet on a peg.
The sunburst or “Surajmukhi” is a typical motif of the state of Gujarat signifying prosperity.
The sideboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made off has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
