British Colonial Rosewood Glass Front Cabinet on Stand

Mid 19th century

A beautiful antique British colonial glass front cabinet in rosewood with a deep moulded and carved cornice. The frieze is relief carved in a floral pattern. Set back from the base, the cabinet has double doors each with beveled glass panels. The doors are flanked by two spirally turned pillars and open to reveal four shelves. The lower section, with an overhanging carved top has three drawers fitted with wooden pulls. All four legs are tapered and terminate with a ring ending in a peg.

The cupboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The mahogany has a rich warm shade with a striking grain. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
