British Colonial Brass Inlaid Writing Box

Mid 19th century

A British colonial writing box with brass inlay to the top, front and back depicting stylized flora and countersunk brass carrying handles to the sides. The box opens to a sloping leather writing surface with compartments for holding papers below. The interior has the usual compartments for inkwells and another lidded compartment.  The exterior is further decorated and reinforced with brass edging.

The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
