British Colonial Rosewood Writing BoxEarly 19th century
A British colonial rosewood writing box beautifully inlaid with brass. The exterior decorated and reinforced in a striking design of brass banding and fleur-de-lis motif, with brass locks, hinges and carrying handles. The inner face of the lid is mounted with a solid teakwood writing surface that can hinge horizontally and thus serve as a writing surface. The interior of the lid is fitted with horizontal splats for paper storage. The interior of the box is divided into compartments, with a lift out tray which conceals more storage space underneath.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing.
