Portuguese Colonial Rosewood Cupboard

Mid 19th century

A magnificent Portuguese colonial cupboard made of rosewood with an overhanging rectangular top. The double doors, made of beautifully grained planks, have raised and fielded panels carved in a pattern exclusive to Portuguese India .They open to an interior with three shelves. The base houses two drawers with brass swan neck handles. The piece stands on four inverted cup legs resting on small bun feet.

The cupboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
