British Colonial Mahogany Letter Box
Late 19th centuryAn unusual antique British colonial mahogany letter box, beautifully decorated and strengthened with brass ornaments in all corners of the top and (drawer) front. The box has a trick opening: the drawer at the front needs to be opened so the interior of the box will hinge into position. The top then opens to reveal a fitted interior with four compartments to keep papers. Writing accessories can be stored in the drawer. The drawer features a very nice brass escutcheon and handle, the design of which is repeated at the side handles. The box stands on four small bracket feet.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing.
