What’s On Display?

23 colonial boxes on display, beautifully crafted and made to carry more than objects. They held letters, jewellery, tea and medicines, travelling with their owners and becoming part of everyday life. Their craftsmanship could be just as revealing: a hidden compartment beneath the first, a mirror folded into the lid, or a drawer that appears only when you know where to look. Each offers a glimpse into the habits, tastes and status of the household it once belonged to.

Opening the Boxes looks beyond their surfaces
