We are pleased and excited to bring you Marijke Böhm’s new series of original artwork of Singapore , available to view and buy in our store.
This new series is all about the lush tropical nature which surrounds us in Singapore. “Singapore’s nature is a huge source of inspiration for me. I am most inspired and fascinated by the different shapes and colours of leaves in a tropical forest. I don’t want to paint a perfect jungle, but I want to express the joy the jungle gives me”, she explains, “I love trees so much, they always make me happy, cheer me up when necessary and they give me energy”.
'Tuesday Morning' - Inspired by walks in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
Marijke employs a number of different techniques and materials, combining acrylic paint with photography on either a canvas, wood or metal base, topped with resined acrylic. “Some pieces are on aluminium, such as ‘My Window’ and have a first layer of photos of Singapore, and a second layer of acrylic paint to express the lushness of Singapore’s nature. It proved to be almost impossible for me to give them both equal focus, but in the end, I am happy with the result”, she says.
'My Window' - Colourful shophouses surrounded by tropical nature
The paintings are full of vibrant, bright colours, and for Marijke “are a reflection of the images and colours of the jungle in my mind”. The multimedia piece entitled “Tuesday Morning’, is inspired by Marijke’s early walks in Bukit Timah nature reserve. “It is full of life; it is about energy and empowerment and strength”, she explains.
