British Colonial Mahogany Sofa

An antique British colonial sofa in mahogany with an arched serpentine crest rail centred by a scallop shell carving. The frame has scrolled arms that display a roundel at the end with a floral motif. This carving is repeated on the seat frame, above the legs. The seat has recently been re-caned in a pattern typical to the colonial style. The four legs are bulbous at the top and terminate with a double ring descending in a peg foot. The seat height is 40 cm or 15½”.
The sofa is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The mahogany has a rich warm shade with a striking grain.
