British Colonial Tilt-Top Mahogany Dining Table

Mid 19th century

An impressive British colonial tilt-top dining table in dark mahogany. The circular top is superb with moulded edges above and below the apron. This top is hinged to the central pillar in such a way that it can be turned from a horizontal to a vertical position and, thereby, when not in use, take up less space. The apron with a relief carved floral pattern. The base has a solid central pillar that is carved on the four sides with a floral design and rests on a solid quatrefoil platform terminating in four S-scrolled carved feet.

The table is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The mahogany has a rich warm shade with a striking grain.
