British Colonial Rosewood Récamier
Mid 19th centuryA British colonial rosewood récamier, with (when facing) a left-hand raised sweeping upholstered arm and right-hand scrolled foot end. The moulded back frame sweeps down and terminates at the base of the comfortably stuff-over seat. The sweep, roll of arm and scrolled foot end are decorated with reeded carving along its frame. The récamier has been newly upholstered with a quality white fabric. It comes with a lovely bolster cushion, finished with ruched button ends. The récamier stands on four short tapered legs. The seat height is 50 cm or 19½”.
The récamier is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
