British Colonial Ivory Veneered Pen Box
Late 19th centuryFrom a private collection, a beautiful British colonial ivory veneered pen box. The dome shaped top and the flat base are made of solid (incised) ivory, while the four sides are veneered with incised ivory on an ebony frame. The top, corners and base are decorated and strengthened with silver strips. The design of sinuous flowering plants is characteristic of Vizagapatam work. On the front an ivory escutcheon. The box opens to an interior with one large and two smaller compartments. Two small silver hinges secure the lid to the back.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory.
