British Colonial Portable Rosewood Writing DeskMid 19th century
A British colonial or Anglo-Indian rosewood portable writing desk, edged and strung in brass. The desk has a sloping front lid that opens out into a writing surface with compartments for paper beneath and having secret drawers hidden behind a sprung panel. At the back there are one large and two small lidded compartments with finely pierced ivory panels and beautiful ivory inlay work. Note the propping hinge which keeps the lid upright and the two brass carrying handles to either side of the box.
