Portuguese Colonial Rosewood Chest on Stand
Late 19th centurySGD 4,600
A Portuguese colonial rosewood chest on stand, reinforced with decorative brass banding along the sides. The chest has a nice brass escutcheon and brass handles on the sides. The inside reveals beautiful brass strap hinges and storage space as well as a small lidded document compartment. The base has a scalloped apron and is resting on four cabriole legs ending in a claw foot.
The chest is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
