British Colonial Rosewood Sideboard
Mid 19th centuryA British colonial sideboard made of rosewood. The upper part with gadrooning on the edge of the flat top and Fleur-de-Lys carving on the frieze. The floating panels of the two doors are carved with a large oval sunburst design, centered with an oval disk and leaf embellishments in the corners. The frames of the doors are carved with elongated reserves. The interior is fitted with three shelves. The lower part features a gadrooned edge at the top and and rests on turned melon sectioned feet.
The sunburst or ‘Surajmukhi’ is a typical motif of the state of Gujarat signifying prosperity.
