Pair of British Colonial open armchairs
Late 19th centuryA pair of British colonial open armchairs in Louis XVI style.
The high back consists of a central upholstered panel that is surmounted by a shaped top rail, pierced and carved at centre with a floral design. Each upright supports a small finial above a block carved with foliage, the same design block at the connection with the seat. The straight arms project from midway down the uprights and rest on scrolled, carved supports and are upholstered with a slightly raised arm pad. The curved front seat rail is also carved.
The chairs stand on four tapering fluted legs and are newly upholstered.
