Walnut Occasional Table with InlayLate 19th century
A walnut occasional table with brass and ebony inlay. The octagonal top is beautifully inlaid with very detailed floral designs within geometric patterns. The top is supported on an arcaded base decorated with delicate pierced carvings and more simple brass flower motifs.
Kashmir, a region in the Northern part of India is known for its beautiful wood craft, so called Jali work in Walnut wood. Jali is a Hindi word which means ‘net’. It is latticed screen, or ornamental open work, done in wood, stone or metal. The Kashmiris use their jali work in many different ways, all with marvellous effect.
