Art Deco Teakwood Wing Chairs
Early 20th centuryA pair of elegant British colonial teakwood wing chairs with a flat wing mounted to the back. The arm rests, frame and legs are made of teakwood. Standing on four round, tapering and raked legs and upholstered in a blue velvet with piping around the edges of the chair. The geometric shape of the armrests and shiny brass caps at the leg end, indicate Art Deco style design.
The purpose of the “wings” was to shield the occupant of the chair from drafts and to trap the heat from a fireplace the area where the person would be sitting. Hence, in the past, these chairs were often used near a fireplace.
