British Colonial Teakwood Cylinder Desk
Late 19th centuryAn antique teakwood cylinder desk with a rectangular moulded top and a cylinder fall front. The top opens to reveal a fitted interior which consists of many storage compartments and two drawers with a brass pull. Moreover, the piece has a pull-out writing slide with storage compartments and an adjustable writing slope. Beneath this writing slide, three equal sized drawers with nice brass handles are flanked by a storage compartment with a panelled door. This compartment features one shelve. The writing height is 78 cm or 30½”.
The desk is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Burma teak wood that this piece has been made of has a warm colour and an attractive, straight grain.
