British Colonial Teakwood Revolving Bookcase
Late 19th centuryAn antique British colonial revolving, open bookcase in teakwood. It features three square book-shelves each divided in four smaller compartments. The sides with four vertical splats. The bookcase revolves on an X-shaped base that rests on small bun feet. The patent for the revolving bookcase, a way of storing books and saving wall space, was taken out by Benjamin Crosby in 1808. This type of British square bookcases was particularly popular in the Edwardian period.
The bookcase is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing.
