British Colonial Rosewood Planter’s Chair
Late 19th centuryA British colonial planter’s’ chair in rosewood. Each arm is composed of a flat plank with a rounded end, joined with a flat headed dowel to a nearly identical plank that rotates out into a footrest. When not in use these planks are stored beneath the arms. The front legs turned with a ring and terminate in small bun feet. The rear legs are squared off and end in a claw foot. The front feet are higher so the seat inclines. The seat height of the chair is 39 cm or 15½”.
The chair is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
