Anglo-Indian Rosewood Half Moon Console Table
Mid 19th centuryA beautiful and highly decorative British colonial rosewood console table supported by four profusely carved legs terminating into mythical animal faces at the table top.
The top consists of a fine figured piece of rosewood and a broad band of richly carved foliage design and animal figures around the edge. It features a beautifully carved frieze with a central flower flanked by two birds. The scalloped shaped apron is intricately carved and pierced with scrolling foliage with a carved mystical bird at centre, the lower edge with a border of stylized leaves and the upper edge with a border of ovals.
The four legs are connected through a carved and pierced x-stretcher with a nicely carved finial.
The table is in excellent condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The rosewood has a dark shade with a striking grain.
