Portuguese Colonial Rosewood Cupboard
Mid 19th centuryAn antique Portuguese colonial cupboard in rosewood with an overhanging top and beautifully designed and crafted with a pattern exclusive to Portuguese India. The cupboard features accents in mahogany; the cornice, the apron and the top and bottom part of the interior. The double doors have two floating panels that display a floral design, while the frame displays an intertwined design. The interior in rosewood with two sliding shelves. The lower part comprises two small drawers above a large one, all with the original recessed brass handles and features a deep curved apron.
The cupboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made off has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
