Portuguese Colonial Rosewood Cupboard

Mid 19th century

SGD 7,500

A magnificent Portuguese colonial rosewood cupboard on stand with an overhanging rectangular top. The double doors are crafted with an arched cushion moulded panel an exclusive pattern to Portuguese India. The doors open to an interior with three shelves. The bottom of the cupboard houses two flush fitting drawers with the original brass swan neck handles. The cupboard rests on a stand with tall slender cabriole legs connected to the carved lower apron of the stand.

The cupboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made off has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
