British Colonial Rosewood Chest on Stand

Late 19th century

An elegant British colonial rosewood chest on stand, reinforced with decorative brass banding along the edges. The chest has a nice brass escutcheon and brass handles on the sides. The base of the chest houses two drawers with each two brass swanneck handles against a brass back plate. The inside reveals beautiful brass strap hinges and a large storage space. The stand has a scalloped apron with a floral carving at centre and is resting on four cabriole legs with acanthus carving on the knees that end in claw feet.

The chest is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
