British Colonial Triple Opening Writing Box
Mid 19th centuryA nice British colonial triple opening writing box, made from beautifully grained rosewood. The exterior is decorated and reinforced in a striking design of brass banding and fleur-de-lis motif. The box opens to reveal small lidded storage compartments and a lockable panelled lid that conceals more storage. A mirror is fitted on the interior of the hinged lid. The box further opens out to show a sloping writing surface, more compartments and even four small secret drawers. Moreover, brass carrying handles are mounted on the sides of the box.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. This piece has been made of Indian rosewood that has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
