British Colonial Teakwood Chest of Drawers
Early 20th centurySGD 3,400
A handsome colonial chest of drawers in richly toned Burma teakwood, combining clean architectural lines with finely detailed drawer fronts. The balanced arrangement of two short drawers above three full-width drawers offers generous storage, while its warm colouring and expressive grain lend depth and character to the piece.
Each drawer is framed by raised mouldings with chamfered corners, creating an elegant geometric outline. Brass drop handles and individual keyhole escutcheons provide a pleasing contrast to the timber. Panelled sides, a gently projecting top and short tapered feet complete its understated, well-proportioned design.
Equally at home in a bedroom, living room or entrance hall, this chest brings together practical versatility. Its restrained detailing allows the natural beauty of the teak to take centre stage, making it a distinctive addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The chest of drawers is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The teakwood has a striking warm grain. The drawer sides and bottom are also made of teakwood attached with fine dovetail detailing. The backside of the chest has lovely paneling also made of teakwood.
