Pair of Vintage Hand Coloured Horses
Mid 20th centuryHand-carved wooden horses from India richly decorated in traditional vegetable dyes with soft, time-worn palettes of sage green, saffron, and vermilion. Their stylised arched necks, and alert expressions evoke the ceremonial horses of Indian temple processions and festive parades.
Each horse is embellished with incised and painted trappings on scalloped breastplates, patterned saddle cloths, and finely outlined bridles and reins. Displayed as a pair, they have a strong sculptural presence and bring a lively, folkloric character to a console, chest, or sideboard. Ideal accent pieces in both contemporary and traditional interiors.
