Portuguese Colonial Mahogany Chest
Late 19th centurySGD 3,000
A Portuguese colonial chest with a top made of one piece of mahogany wood. The lid of the chest features a carved pattern exclusive to Portuguese India and opens to a single large compartment. The lid is attached to the back with beautiful brass strap hinges. The front features a nice brass escutcheon. On the sides brass carrying handles.
The chest is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The mahogany has a rich warm shade with a striking grain.
