Pair of British Colonial Rosewood Bookcases

Mid 19th century

A magnificent pair of antique British colonial bookcases in rosewood with a deep cornice consisting of a wide band of floral carving and egg and dart carving on the edge. The bookcases have double doors with bevelled glass panels within a rosewood frame; they open to reveal an interior with three shelves. Along the sides beautiful, spiral turned pilasters.
The sides are boldly carved with a large oval sunburst design, centered by an oval disk. The sunburst or “Surajmukhi” is a typical motif of the state of Gujarat signifying prosperity. The base has floral carving, an egg and dart carved moulded edge and rests on four protruding claw feet.

The price quoted is for the pair of bookcases.
