British Colonial Teakwood Campaign Chest of Drawers

Late 19th century

SGD 3,200

A British colonial campaign chest of drawers made of teakwood.  Like the majority of campaign chests, the present example can be split in two parts for ease of transport. The upper section has two short drawers above one long drawer, the lower section has two long drawers. All of the drawers are flush fitting with the recessed brass handles and escutcheons. The square moulded bottom edge rests on four bun feet.

The chest is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The teakwood has a striking warm grain. The drawer sides and bottom are also made of teakwood attached with fine dovetails. The backside of the chest has lovely paneling also made of teakwood.
