British Colonial Teakwood Extending Dining Table
Mid 19th centuryAn antique British colonial extending dining table made of teakwood with a deep moulded edge and cut corners. The opposite ends of the table can be slid apart to insert extra leaves.
The heavy, square tapering legs with carved neoclassical motifs on all four sides. They terminate in brass casters that allow the table ends to easily run from the under frame. The table has two additional extension leaves of 47 cm (18½”) each. Fully extended, the table measures 319 cm x 122 cm (or 10 feet 6” x 4 feet) and can seat 10 people comfortably.
The table is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Burma teak wood that this piece has been made of has a warm color and an attractive, straight grain.
