British Colonial Teakwood Cylinder DeskLate 19th century
An elegant British colonial teakwood cylinder desk with a rectangular moulded top and a cylinder fall front. The top opens to reveal a fitted interior which consists of a small central drawer with a brass pull below two pigeon holes and flanked on either side by three equal size storage compartments. The pull out writing slide has an adjustable writing slope and storage compartments. It stands on four tapering cabriole legs. The front and rear legs are connected with a stretcher, the two hind legs connected by a solid footrest.
The desk is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory by using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Burma teak wood that this piece has been made of has a warm color and an attractive, straight grain.
