British Colonial Rosewood Occasional Table
Early 20th centuryAn antique British colonial occasional table modelled as a nude lady holding a rectangular top with a thick moulded edge and round corners. The table has been fully made of rosewood. The top is carved with a floral design in the corners and raised on four bun feet which suggests that the top can come off and be used as a separate table on the floor. However, the top is fixed. The lady is kneeling on a base which is identical in shape to the top. A truly unique piece.
The table is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made off has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
