British Colonial Rosewood Chest of DrawersMid 19th century
An unusual size antique British colonial sunburst chest of drawers in rosewood with a rectangular moulded top. It features two equal size drawers above two larger ones. The panels of all the drawers are carved with oval sunburst designs centered with inset brass-drawer handles. Similar to the top, a moulded edge with egg and dart carving at the bottom. The piece stands on four bun feet ending in a ring.
The sunburst or ‘Surajmukhi’ is a typical motif of the state of Gujarat signifying prosperity.
