Dutch Colonial Rosewood Storage Box

A very nice and decorative antique Dutch colonial storage box made of rosewood. Strengthened and decorated with beautiful, pierced brass straps and ornaments on the sides and the corners and top of the lid. The box opens to a fitted interior with small compartments and a lift out tray that gives access to a large storage compartment underneath. The sides have brass carrying handles, the front with the original lock surrounded by an oval, pierced brass escutcheon.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
