Portuguese Colonial Rosewood Round Side TableMid 19th century
An antique Portuguese colonial round side table in rosewood. The top has a carved edge above an applied apron that is carved with foliage and rosettes. The top is hinged to the central pedestal in such a way that it can be turned from a horizontal to a vertical position and, thereby, when not in use, take up less space.
It is supported on a carved column that rests on a triple-form base terminating in 3 carved bun feet.
The table is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made off has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
