British Colonial Carved Teakwood Sideboard
Mid 19th centuryA small, beautifully carved British colonial bowfronted sideboard in teakwood. The overhanging top is made of one piece of wood decorated with egg and dart carving on the edge. The front is mounted with two hinged doors that are intricately carved and pierced with a design of intertwining vines and leaves. The doors are flanked by two carved solid pillars. The sides of the sideboard are relief carved with a floral pattern. The piece stands on a carved base resting on four claw feet.
The interior is fitted with one shelve.
The sideboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The mahogany has a rich warm shade with a striking grain. The Burma teak wood that this piece has been made of has a warm colour and an attractive, straight grain.
