British Colonial Mahogany Tea Caddy

Mid 19th century

A British colonial mahogany tea caddy. The caddy is sarcophagus-shaped, the raised central panel of the lid has a carved floral mounted at centre. The front, sides and back of the box are concave. At front center of the box is a keyhole with a brass surround. Working lock and key are present. The interior is divided into three compartments to keep tea containers. The third container was used for blending tea. The box stands on diagonally positioned brass paw feet.

The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The mahogany has a rich warm shade with a striking grain.
