British Colonial Rosewood Occasional Table with Inlay
Late 19th centuryA beautiful British colonial Rosewood occasional table with ebony and ivory inlay. The octagonal top is intricately inlaid with delicate floral tendrils, a radiating starburst medallion with ebony and ivory inlay. The top edge is finished with a diamond-and-dot running border, visually tying it to the octagonal under frieze. This lends the piece a refined, jewel-like quality characteristic of late 19th to early 20th century. The table top is supported by an arcaded inlaid folding base. The inlay work is indicative of Hoshiarpur work from Northern India.
The table is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The dark ebony colour gives sharply defined contrast to the ivory inlay work.
