British Colonial Rosewood Pedestal Sideboard

Mid 19th century

A fine British colonial rosewood pedestal sideboard with a top made of a single plank of wood. The sideboard sits on two rectangular pedestals with hinged doors that open to an interior with one shelf. The paneled doors with nice decorative carving. The top of the sideboard has an edge with egg and dart carving that extends beyond the base and sets back approximately one inch in the middle section above the central wide drawer. Flanking this central drawer are other drawers which are the same width as the pedestals. The top of the sideboard is made of a single plank of wood.

The sideboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
