British Colonial Rosewood Triple Opening Writing Box

Mid 19th century

A nice British colonial triple opening writing box, made from beautifully grained rosewood. The exterior decorated and reinforced in a striking design of brass banding and fleur-de-lis motif. The box opens to reveal small lidded storage compartments and a lockable paneled lid that conceals more storage. The interior of the hinged lid is fitted with four splats allowing for paper storage. The box further opens out to show a sloping writing surface, more compartments and even four small secret drawers. The sides of the box are mounted with brass carrying handles.

The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The rosewood has a dark shade with a striking grain.
