Anglo-Indian Ebony Dressing Box – SOLDMid 19th century
An extraordinary and delicately carved British colonial solid ebony dressing box. It features geometric carving amid stylized trellis and foliate designs on the top and the four sides.
It opens to a gorgeous interior with several small carved and inlaid compartments, a lift out tray and a mirror. The mirror can be brought forward from the lid and rests on the frontal compartments of the interior.
The box rests on an attached curvilinear base with a moulded edge.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing.
Ebony (Diospyrus Ebenum) is a black wood of very close grain and heavy in weight.
