British Colonial Rosewood Centre Sofa
Mid 19th centurySGD 4,500
Antique British colonial centre sofa in rosewood with a beautifully carved framework. Unlike a chaise longue, this sofa does not have a backrest. It would have been made to stand close to the middle of a room or in front of a window where it would not block the view. It could also be fitted for an alcove and placed parallel to a wall. The sofa has been re-caned in a traditional colonial pattern and stands on four short tapering legs ending in a peg. The seat height is 41 cm or 16”.
The sofa is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. It has been made of North Indian rosewood which is lighter in colour than the rosewood from the South.
