British Colonial Plain Rosewood Cupboard
Mid 19th centuryA British colonial cupboard in rosewood with a flat top, egg and dart carving on the edge and wave carving on the frieze centered by a floral block. The frames of the beautifully grained double doors are carved with elongated reserves and circles in the corners. The bottom finished with a gadrooned moulded edge and resting on turned melon sectioned, tapered feet. The mahogany interior is fitted with four shelves.
The cupboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
