British Colonial Carved Elephant Head Legs Table

Late 19th century

A beautiful and unusual British colonial occasional table with an octagonal top inlaid with a floral pattern, two elephants and two camels. The top also features a relief carved elephant at the centre as well as a floral pattern close to the sides. The table is supported on four carved elephant head legs that are connected and strengthened by an x-shaped stretcher.

The table is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain, giving sharply defined contrast to the inlay work.
