British Colonial Carved Dark Mahogany Four Poster Bed
Late 19th centuryA magnificent British colonial king sized four poster bed in dark mahogany. The bed is composed of four posts, a headboard, footboard and a canopy, each part made out of a single thick piece of rosewood. The head- and footboard and the canopy are beautifully carved and pierced with stylized foliage. The posts that have a reeded and relief carved column, are joined to each other with four solid beams. The bed, that can be fully disassembled, rests on short carved legs that flare out at the bottom and terminate in ball feet. A truly unique masterpiece!
The bed is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The mahogany that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
