British Colonial Ebony Dressing Box

A delicately carved British colonial ebony dressing/jewellery box. It features geometric carving amid stylized trellis and foliate designs on the top and the four sides. The interior houses several small compartments and a mirror. The mirror can be brought forward from the lid and rests inside the frontal compartments of the interior. It has an attached curvilinear base with a moulded edge.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. Ebony (Diospyrus Ebenum) is a black wood of very close grain and heavy in weight.
